I'm sure you've heard the saying...
"An apple a day keeps the doctor away."
I heard something like that today that got my attention...
"An email a day keeps the J.O.B. away." ~Daegan Smith
Seriously?
Daegan Smith is quite an amazing guy. I've been following his work for years, but only recently have tapped in to his training and I am very impressed. I will confess, what impresses me the most is how he is LIVE and really communicates with people who reach out to him.
Anyway, Daegan debunked a few email auto-responder myths for me today and I wanted to talk about that with you...in case you don't get his info...but you should ;)
So, over the years, I've always been advised to send an email every few days over a period of time. For example an email every 3rd day for 2 weeks. The problem that always resounded in the back of my mind was this...
"If a person needs 7 exposures before they buy, doesn't that mean it will take weeks before they do?"
Hmmmmm.....
Well one thing that Daegan shared today is that you should send at LEAST one email a day; preferably two.
WHY?
- You build a rapport with your list. People begin to look forward to your emails and miss them when you don't send them.
- People are less likely to block you or unsubscribe if they see emails from you regularly.
- The people that do unsubscribe---it's a blessing...don't worry about it.
- And, to go along with #3, you clean out your list. The people can say "too much" and unsubscribe the very next time you email them, leading to a slow cleansing of your list, regularly.
There are two points that need to be understood:
- You need to engage your reader and be aware of their needs (why they opted-in) and provide VALUE to them. Otherwise, you can email them once a day or once a week, but they won't read your emails and they WILL unsubscribe. Communicate with them. Share stories and relate to them. Don't always be selling something...but ALWAYS be giving VALUE. (Yes, I had to say that twice).
- Fear of scarcity and lack is CRIPPLING...so get beyond it right now. Don't stress over the one that left, instead nurture the one(s) that have stayed. If you don't care for the little you have been given, you will not be given more to care for. ;)
If you haven't already plugged in to Daegan, I highly recommend it and I want you to go check out his website right now.
WAIT... before you leave... please subscribe to this blog for updates. You will be getting quite a bit from me.
Blessings,
Joy Marino
